I’m in Graduate school studying Clinical Psychology, in Chicago. My concentration is toward health psychology which is focused on hospital settings and preventative/wellness psychology, working off the BioPsychoSocial, clinical model.

My theoretical orientation originated at CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and mindfulness techniques. The basic premise of CBT is that we have Schemas, or core beliefs that shape our Thinking. The thinking, in turn, affects our mood. In CBT you get at the automatic thoughts and confront the distorted ones and replace them with healthy thoughts, which eventually will change the core beliefs.

Lately, I’ve been expanding out to person centered therapies after I realized that some people just need love and validation. They need to see that, at at their core, they are acceptable and beautiful people. Person centered therapies run on the belief that people have a tendency to do what is best for them and move toward their best self when they are in a healthy environment. I love their focus on the here and now and just “being”. I am also very attracted to existential therapy’s focus on creating meaning in people’s lives.
